Behind the Headlines: COPD
(February 27, 2015)—
The American Lung Association joins the nation in mourning the passing of beloved actor Leonard Nimoy, of COPD. The passing of Mr. Nimoy, world renowned for his role as Mr. Spock on the Star Trek TV series and films, has brought renewed attention to COPD – Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, the third leading cause of death in the U.S.
The American Lung Association is a leader in the fight against COPD, and its major cause—smoking—and is a trusted source for educational material and programs on the prevention and treatment of lung cancer, as well as smoking cessation. We also advocate for public policies that have been proven to reduce tobacco use and for increased funding for COPD research.
