Thank you so much to the 52 caring individuals who attended the Chemical Dependency Training Consortium of the NW on Chemical Dependency and Domestic Violence! Kevin Moore noted 8 individuals were from corrections!!! The difficult topic Domestic Violence was brought to the forefront with utmost respect and understanding that domestic violence knows no boundaries and it affects all of us.
One of my greatest learnings was – One of the greatest differences between chemical dependency and domestic violence was the control issue. Chemical Dependency brings forth a loss of control while Domestic Violence it is about obtaining control. One of the presenters gave an example – “Does your partner do that to his/her drinking buddies?” The individual responds “no” “Then they choose to.”
